Travel Gear and Packing

The easiest way to travel lighter is to pack for a single carry-on and plan around your airline's size and liquids rules. For most trips that means one carry-on, a small personal item, packing cubes, a clear liquids bag, and one charger that powers everything you bring.

Our travel guides compare gear on maker specs: listed capacity, dimensions, weight and materials. For rules we use airline and airport policies, and we date them because they change. We do not run our own lab tests. Always check your own airline's current carry-on and personal-item limits before you fly, because they differ between carriers and fare types.

Start with the guide to packing a carry-on. If you work while you travel, the digital nomad packing list and gear guide cover laptops, chargers and connectivity. Packing liquids without leaks and keeping gear dry in heavy rain cover the two most common packing problems. For staying online abroad, read the travel Wi-Fi hotspot vs eSIM comparison.
