How we research

GearOrbit guides are research guides. Each one is put together from published sources: the maker's own product pages, official rules for travel and batteries, and current store listings. We don't physically test, measure or photograph the products we write about, and our guides don't claim we did.

Specs come from the maker

Dimensions, weight, materials, battery capacity, light output and other specs come from the manufacturer's product page or published spec sheet. When a spec matters to the pick, the guide says when it was checked (for example, "as of Oct 2026"), because makers revise products and listings.

Travel and battery rules come from official sources

What you can take on a plane, such as liquids, lighters, knives and tools, power banks and spare lithium batteries, is based on the TSA's What Can I Bring? list and the FAA's PackSafe pages. Carry-on size limits come from each airline's own baggage page, and the carry-on size calculator in our packing guides keeps the source link and the date each airline's limits were last checked.

Rules change, and the officer at the checkpoint makes the final call, so check the linked official page before you fly.

Prices and stock are checked and dated

Prices and availability are checked on the retailer or maker page when a guide is published or updated, and they are shown with the month they were checked. Prices change often, so the price on the store page at checkout is the one that counts.

What we don't do

We don't run product tests, give star ratings or scores, or publish reader reviews. Our structured data for search engines has no product prices, offers, ratings or reviews.

Images on our guides are generated illustrations or images supplied by the maker; none are photos of products we own or tested.

How these rules are checked

Before a post goes live, an automated check scans its text for first-person testing claims. A new post that makes one isn't published, and an update can't add one. A separate check fails the site's test suite if any page's structured data includes offers or prices.
