Qi2 vs Qi2.2: what changed

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), which runs the Qi standard, launched Qi2 in November 2023 with 15 watts of charging power. Qi2's key feature is the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), which the WPC says is based on MagSafe technology Apple contributed. It gives you magnetic attachment and alignment between the charger and the phone. Products with MPP carry the Qi2 logo.

In July 2025 the WPC launched Qi v2.2.1, branded Qi2 25W, which raised wireless charging to 25W. The WPC's specification history lists support for up to 25W power transfer in version 2.2. It also lists power modes matched to USB-C adapters, and foreign-object checks at power levels above 15W. Makers usually call these products "Qi2.2," and we use that name here.

Two things matter when you buy:

  • Your phone sets the speed. A Qi2.2 bank only delivers 25W to a phone that supports it. INIU's product page, for example, says only the iPhone 16 (on iOS 26) and later support Qi2.2 25W, excluding the iPhone 16e and 17e. Older or unsupported phones fall back to a lower speed.
  • Look for certification. The WPC says certification is what makes Qi2 products interoperable. Baseus and BMX list their banks as Qi2.2 Certified and Qi2 Certified, and INIU calls the SnapGo Compact "certified."

Baseus PicoGo AM52: best overall

The AM52 with built-in cable does everything a magnetic bank needs to do. Baseus lists it as Qi2.2 Certified, with 25W wireless charging and a 10,000mAh battery. It also has a built-in USB-C cable rated at 45W, so you can charge a second device or refill the bank without carrying a separate cord. Baseus calls it flight-friendly. It's $55.99 in Cosmic Black, price at publish (Oct 2026) (Baseus, in stock). The Dark Cherry color is $69.99.

INIU SnapGo Air: slimmest 10K with a display

INIU lists the SnapGo Air at 0.5 inch (1.37 cm) thick with 10,000mAh, which makes it a good fit for a pocket. It offers Qi2.2 25W wireless charging and a short attached USB-C "GoCord" rated up to 45W wired, and it can charge three devices at once. A small digital display shows the remaining charge. INIU calls it airline-approved, backs it with a 3-year warranty, and lists magnetic charging for the iPhone 12 to 17 and Air series. It's $54.99, price at publish (Oct 2026) (INIU, in stock only in Metallic Mocha at publish).

INIU SnapGo Compact: best value 25W

If you want 25W wireless for less, the SnapGo Compact is the cheapest Qi2.2 bank here. INIU calls it a Qi2.2 25W certified magnetic power bank with 10,000mAh. It has the same attached 12 cm GoCord as the Air and a 3-year warranty, and INIU describes it as TSA-compliant. INIU doesn't list a wired output rating on the product page, so check before you buy if wired speed matters to you. It's $44.99, price at publish (Oct 2026) (INIU, in stock in Black and White).

INIU SnapGo Compact (P771)

Baseus PicoGo AM61: cable-free 25W

The AM61 has the same headline specs as the AM52 without the attached cable: Qi2.2 Certified 25W wireless, 45W wired over USB-C and 10,000mAh. Baseus also lists multi-device charging and what it calls advanced cooling. Pick it if you'd rather use your own cable than have one attached. It's $69.99, price at publish (Oct 2026) (Baseus, in stock). Baseus was running a promo code at publish that lowers the price.

BMX SolidSafe Air 5K: thinnest 5K

For the lightest daily carry, the BMX SolidSafe Air 5K is 6.8mm thin in a titanium housing. BMX says it uses semi-solid-state cells, which contain less liquid electrolyte than conventional lithium-ion, to help reduce fire risk, swelling and heat. It's Qi2 Certified at 15W wireless, with 20W USB-C output and 15W input, and it can charge two devices at once. The trade-off is half the capacity of the 10K picks and the older 15W speed. It's $59.99, price at publish (Oct 2026) (BMX, in stock in Black, Gold and Silver). Read our full BMX SolidSafe Air 5K review for more.

5,000 vs 10,000mAh for daily carry

A 5,000mAh bank is the thinnest and lightest option, and it suits topping up your phone during the day. A 10,000mAh bank is thicker and heavier but holds about twice the stored energy, which suits long days and travel. If you carry a bank in a pants pocket every day, the BMX is the easiest to forget about. If you need a full extra charge, choose one of the 10K picks.

What to look for

  1. Qi2 or Qi2.2 certification, not just "magnetic" or "MagSafe-compatible." Uncertified magnetic banks may not follow the WPC's interoperability and safety rules.
  2. Phone support for 25W. If your phone doesn't support Qi2.2, a 15W Qi2 bank charges it just as quickly.
  3. A built-in cable if you don't want to carry one. The AM52, SnapGo Air and SnapGo Compact all have one.
  4. The warranty. INIU lists 3 years on both SnapGo models.

Flying with a Qi2 power bank

Baseus calls the AM52 flight-friendly, INIU calls the SnapGo Air airline-approved and the Compact TSA-compliant. Power banks go in carry-on bags, not checked luggage, and airline rules vary, so check yours before you fly. Our best power banks for flights guide covers the rules in detail.

FAQ

What's the difference between Qi2 and Qi2.2? Qi2 (launched November 2023) added magnetic alignment and 15W charging. Qi2.2, branded Qi2 25W by the WPC (launched July 2025), raises wireless charging to up to 25W.

Is a Qi2.2 power bank worth it for an iPhone 15? Probably not for speed. INIU says only the iPhone 16 (on iOS 26) and later support Qi2.2 25W, excluding the 16e and 17e. An iPhone 15 will charge at a lower rate, so a cheaper or thinner Qi2 15W bank may suit it better.

Do Qi2 power banks work with Android phones? They work with Android phones that support Qi2. Check the phone maker's specs, because many Android phones have no built-in magnets and need a magnetic case.

Is Qi2 the same as MagSafe? Not quite. The WPC says Qi2's Magnetic Power Profile is based on MagSafe technology Apple contributed, so Qi2 banks snap onto MagSafe iPhones. MagSafe itself is Apple's own system.

Can I take a magnetic power bank on a plane? Generally yes, in your carry-on bag. Check your airline's rules first, and see our flight power bank guide.

Was INIU part of a power bank recall? Yes, but not these models. The CPSC's December 2025 recall covers only INIU's older BI-B41 10,000mAh power bank, sold on Amazon between August 2021 and April 2022, with specific serial numbers. See the CPSC notice for details.
